The Japanese publication Nikkei reports that Nintendo is going to adapt to the requirements of the European Union and make an important change to the console. Due to the "right to repair", adopted in July 2024 and entering into force on August 1 of this year, the company will in the future release Nintendo Switch 2 with a battery that can be removed and easily replaced. This decision should extend the life of the device and save users from having to buy a new console if the battery wears out.
It is noted that the modification may slightly affect the cooling system and the thickness of the Switch 2, but the manufacturer is working to maintain the current form factor. This is also an initiative of Nintendo itself, and, according to Nikkei, the company may release an updated version in other regions, including Japan and the United States.
