Recently, a series of screenshots went viral in the gaming community. Allegedly, these are stories from former and current developers from the studio Pearl Abyss, which recently released Crimson Desert.

Allegedly, Crimson Desert was conceived as an MMO prequel to Black Desert Online, but after several years of work, it was reformatted into a single-player game.

The final version of the story was formed almost before release, so the narrative turned out to be disjointed. The original version involved political intrigues: a young king, deprived of his throne, turned to the Graymanes for help to regain power. There would be a struggle for control over the Crimson Desert, where minerals were mined to produce a special "currency."

The authors of the messages also spoke about problems with management in the studio. Allegedly, managers were guided by other games: they actively borrowed ideas and functions they liked in order to add all this to Crimson Desert.

For example, this happened with the floating islands — they were inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The result was a mixture of disparate ideas and mechanics.

The release version of Crimson Desert received "mixed" reviews on Steam — some players had complaints about the controls, content, and gameplay.
