Digital Foundry recently examined the next-gen update for Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which was introduced earlier this year for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles.

According to the expert, the graphics of the console KCD, combined with the optional high-quality texture pack, are approaching the "ultra settings" of the PC:

This is achieved through a significantly modified version of CryEngine, better adapted to the capabilities of modern PlayStation and Xbox, primarily due to improved CPU multi-threading to optimize streaming and minimize stutter when moving. An updated rendering backend designed for more modern graphics APIs has also been implemented.

The Digital Foundry specialist recommends using this texture pack, but there is a nuance — it is not available on the Xbox Series S.

Improved volumetric effects transferred from the "ultra settings" of the PC are also noted: "light shining through windows now looks much more natural and clearer, illuminating dust particles floating in the air, increased detail settings for vegetation, objects, and NPCs have noticeably improved the overall image quality in the game world." However, the developers still could not completely get rid of the noticeable "loading of objects", but it has become less frequent.

According to the Digital Foundry specialist, the PC is still the best platform for those who want to get 4K 60 FPS. However, this next-gen update for Kingdom Come: Deliverance "magnificently transfers the best of the PC version to consoles — and this significantly changes the game":

In short: highly recommended, especially for owners of displays with VRR support.
