It recently became known about large-scale layoffs at Epic Games. Some industry representatives have reacted to this.
Former Valve writer Chet Faliszek, who worked on the Left 4 Dead, Half-Life and Counter-Strike franchises, shared his opinion:
Can someone explain to me why anyone working at Epic should be giving it their all? After all, Epic just laid off a thousand people. And is now going to close Fortnite Rocket Racing, Ballistic and Festival Battle Stage [... Epic Games] is not a public company. There is no need to chase stock market performance. This is Tim Sweeney's decision. A thousand people is more than the number of employees at all of Valve.
Faliszek noted that Sweeney focused on one single project — Fortnite:
And now Tim has stopped making games altogether — he only develops one [Fortnite], spends all his time on it and tries to make as much money as possible. Well, Tim, it seems Gabe is better than you at this [making money]. I don't even know what to say to you, buddy — you just stopped thinking about creating something else...
