Recently, Dmitry Gusev, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Control, spoke with TASS and expressed the opinion that it is worth expanding the scope of the self-ban mechanism in Russia.

Gusev proposes extending the self-ban to computer games:

Today, computer games are becoming a serious problem. For many, this is already a form of addiction that is difficult to cope with on their own. Therefore, it is worth considering the possibility of introducing a self-ban in this area as well

According to the deputy, the self-ban mechanism can help people who can no longer independently abandon what is destroying them.

[....] gambling, alcohol or other addictions — the state should give [a person] a tool to protect themselves. A self-ban is just such a mechanism.

It is not yet clear how a "self-ban on games" can be implemented.

The upcoming self-ban on gambling in Russia will work as follows:

If a person is on the list [of those who have established a self-ban], gambling organizers should not allow them to play, accept bets, or allow them into casinos and slot machine halls. The restrictions also affect advertising: casinos, bookmakers, and companies that advertise their services will not be able to send advertising offers to people with a self-ban.
