Although Naughty Dog is currently busy with the Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet project, the community has no doubt about returning to the story of the infected.
Recently, Druckmann posted old sketches from 2003 on social media, describing them as a project about "a man, his adopted daughter, and a journey through a destroyed America." But another phrase caused a storm of discussion. Druckmann wrote that it was a "crazy journey," and he is grateful for every stage of it, "especially for those few stops that are still ahead." It was this fragment that players considered a subtle teaser for the third part.
These are not empty guesses, because Druckmann has already hinted that the story is not over. In a documentary about the creation of the second part, he mentioned a concept that is as fascinating as the first and second games, and maintains the overall line of the entire trilogy. Then the words were spoken: "There is probably another chapter in this story."
There is no official announcement of The Last of Us Part III for PS5 or the future PS6 yet, but Druckmann's post gave fans new ground for speculation. Given the success of the series and the importance of the franchise for PlayStation, players are clearly not ready to say goodbye to the world of Ellie and Joel.
