Players are increasingly complaining that disc editions are ceasing to be a complete product. A fresh example is Starfield on PS5. According to the Does It Play community, about 81 GB of data is recorded on the disc, which is not enough to launch. Since the total size of the PS5 version is about 123 GB, the missing part will have to be downloaded from the PlayStation Network. When trying to launch the game offline, a message is displayed requiring you to connect to the network and download the update.
The situation is different from the usual "cards with a code", since there is indeed a significant part of the data on the Blu-ray. However, without the Internet, the disc is useless. The publisher could have solved the problem by releasing the game on two discs, but apparently considered it too expensive and shifted the burden to users. Starfield on disc without a network connection can only be considered a useless piece of plastic.
