According to GameSpot, citing technology reporter Alex Heath, some of Disney's management are seriously interested in buying Epic Games. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that the studio is currently going through a difficult period: it was recently announced that more than 1,000 employees would be laid off due to falling revenues from Fortnite and the need to cut costs.
Alex Heath reported:
I know for a fact that senior Disney managers want to buy Epic Games and are just waiting for the right moment. I think if Epic ever sold, if it decided to give up its independence, Disney would be the most natural home for it for many reasons.
Kevin Mayer, former Disney manager and former CEO of TikTok, believes:
Epic or another asset from the gaming industry would be a great addition to The Walt Disney Company's resources.
The new head of Disney, Josh D'Amaro, who is considered a big fan of games, also plays an important role. He has already overseen a $1.5 billion investment in Epic Games for joint projects within Fortnite. Everything indicates that Disney intends to aggressively expand its presence in gaming.
