The developers of Crimson Desert have introduced a variety of gameplay mechanics in the game that players may have encountered in other projects before.
Publishing Director at Larian Studios, Michael Douse, decided to share his opinion on the new product from Pearl Abyss:
Crimson Desert is fun to play, but it's a very cynical mix of borrowed mechanics. It's like a collection of "The Best of Games" — with all the pros and cons.
However, he admits that he has noticed similar "cynicism" in other AAA open-world games. And overall, the authors of Crimson Desert have done even better than some developers.
According to Douse, in the foreseeable future, gamers will see more similar games (with a mix of different mechanics) in the premium and free-to-play segments — there are fewer risks in this approach.
