Gamers first met Rain in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. He is a descendant of the god Argus and an unprincipled fighter, ready for any dishonest act for the sake of his goals.

Rain has unsurpassed control over the water element and also partially controls electricity. In battles, he throws water bubbles at enemies, summons lightning, delivers spinning heel kicks, teleports, creates water geysers, and enhances his attacks.

In the arcade version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, he was not a full-fledged character and was a copy of Reptile with a purple palette. But already in the home versions of UMK3 for Sega Genesis and SNES consoles, Rain became a full-fledged playable fighter (Rain and Ermac took the place of Shiva, who was cut from the game to save space on the cartridge).
