Ubisoft Sued Again Over The Crew Server Shutdown

Recently, a new lawsuit against Ubisoft has come to light. It was filed by the UFC-Que Choisir association, which deals with consumer protection issues.

The reason was the shutdown of the racing game-service The Crew's servers. Well-known activists from Stop Killing Games, who continue to fight for the preservation of games, helped with the lawsuit.

UFC-Que Choisir is trying to get a key decision from the court on the following question:

Does the purchase of a video game — in material [physical] or digital form — allow players to claim, at the very least, the right to use the game, independent of the publisher's wishes and permission?

After the servers were shut down, The Crew stopped working altogether. The developers did not provide an offline mode (it was later made by modders).

UFC-Que Choisir believes that Ubisoft violated basic consumer rights, as they were effectively deprived of their property (a working copy of The Crew).
