In late March 2026, fans of The Long Dark celebrated the release of the final fifth episode.

The years of waiting have not been in vain: the final episode of the WINTERMUTE story mode is now available. As Mackenzie and Astrid, you will have to fight the harsh elements and finally unravel the mystery of the aurora borealis. The long saga of the struggle for survival is coming to an end. The fifth episode, "Light at the End of Everything," will be available as a free add-on for all owners of THE LONG DARK. We want to thank all the players who have gone this long way with us. We look forward to seeing you on the other side.
