Such changes have been warmly received by the audience, which is reflected in the Metacritic user rating. Currently, Crimson Desert is the second highest-rated new game of 2026. With an average score of 8.8/10, the project surpassed Pokemon Pokopia (8.5/10), second only to Resident Evil Requiem (9.4/10).
The situation with critics' scores looks noticeably worse: only 7.7/10 and 48th place in the year's ranking. However, it is worth considering that reviewers evaluated the version without the important March patches.
Players and critics agree on one thing – the plot is disappointing. An interview with Cliff's voice actor shed light on the problem. According to him, the chaotically constructed plot was repeatedly modified over the years of work on the game, and changes were made literally at the last moment, before the premiere itself.
