GameChat is one of the key innovations of Switch 2. It is a built-in microphone and voice system, accessible directly from the console and launched with a single press of the "C" button on the right Joy-Con. This is a significant step forward compared to the first Switch, where a separate mobile app was required for chat.
Since online multiplayer in most cases already requires a paid Nintendo Switch Online subscription, the changes will go unnoticed for the majority of players. However, there is a nuance: GameChat becomes paid even in those games that offer a free multiplayer mode without a subscription fee.
For such projects, voice chat will create an additional barrier to entry that did not exist before. At the same time, Nintendo has not offered any alternative for users who do not have a Switch Online subscription.
