Racists, Cheaters, and Hackers: STRIDEN Creators Explain Why the Shooter Failed and Will Be Removed from Steam

Last year, the survival shooter STRIDEN was released on PC in Steam in "early access" format. Teams fought in an open world, earned points, and strived to evacuate successfully.

The creators of STRIDEN recently announced the closure of the project. They failed to retain the audience, and a hacking attack led to unplanned budget expenditures:

We foresaw this development back in the fall of 2025, when we lost many players shortly after the early access release. We learned a lot from this and could endlessly discuss what should have been done differently. Unfortunately, a significant portion of our resources went to things we didn't plan for or budget for — such as addressing internal and external issues after our studio was targeted by a cyberattack during early access, as well as combating cheaters who kicked players off servers and wrote racist messages in the chat.

As a result, most of the budget and resources of the STRIDEN developers went to restoring everything and creating a new security system for both the studio and the game. They believe that these funds could have been spent on refining the shooter and its content.

STRIDEN servers are planned to be shut down by the end of April, and the game is intended to be removed from sale on Steam.

The developers noted that the police have "advanced" in the investigation of the hacking attack.
