The average score on Metacritic stopped at 7.5/10 – a solid result, but without the level that set the standards for the platformer genre 15 years ago. At the same time, players on Steam received the game noticeably warmer – 87% positive reviews, noting the successful transfer of the spirit of the original to 3D.
However, the scores did not match the interest. At its peak, the game had only 621 people playing simultaneously – only a fraction of the audience of the first part. Now more people are playing the classic 2D version than the new one. The presence in Game Pass slightly smooths out the situation, but the series still relies on the name of Edmund McMillen.
Despite the weak online presence, Sluggerfly has achieved a small creative success. There is a lot of enthusiasm in the reviews: the game is called "the first good part since 2010", which finally did not become a boring runner. The feeling of jumping and the accuracy of control are especially praised, almost like in the original.
