Next month, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will celebrate its 10th anniversary. The last projects in the series on PlayStation were The Lost Legacy and Uncharted 4 itself, after which the studio released The Last of Us Part II and began work on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
Fans miss Nathan Drake and his team of treasure hunters and wonder if Uncharted 5 or a spin-off will ever be released. It seems that this option was indeed considered at Naughty Dog.
According to insider Tom Henderson on the Insider Gaming podcast, even before COVID, the studio was planning Uncharted 5:
This is not the first time Naughty Dog has discussed the idea of Uncharted 5. I know that some planning was done before COVID.
This is not surprising: before creating The Last of Us, the studio was already considering returning to Jak and Daxter. Uncharted remains one of the most reliable projects in terms of investment.
A recent post by Shawn Escayg, co-director of The Lost Legacy, fueled rumors about a new installment – he was doing "research", and the frame included Fort George in Trinidad and Tobago, a possible location for a future game.
