The co-founder of the first Xbox openly commented on the future of the brand and expressed skepticism about Project Helix, the next generation of Microsoft consoles.
In his opinion, the key problem is the lack of a clear concept. He noted: "I don't know as a player or as a developer what this device should be," emphasizing that even within the industry there is no clarity regarding the direction of Xbox.
At the same time, he highlighted an alternative – the Steam ecosystem. According to him, Valve is betting on games and is "uncompromisingly focused on creating cool games," even if it sometimes makes mistakes in business decisions.
This is important against the background that Project Helix is positioned as a hybrid of a console and a PC, capable of running games from Xbox and PC. The idea is ambitious, but raises questions.
