An unfortunate wording caused a wave of outrage in the community of artificial intelligence fighters.
The Belarusian cyberpunk action game Replaced was recently released. Soon, anti-AI activists listed the novelty as "neuro-slop."
The reason was a statement by IGN: the game used the wording AI-based adventure (literally: "AI-based adventure").
Some people jumped to conclusions and began to cancel Replaced for "using artificial intelligence in development."
In fact, IGN was talking about something else: the protagonist of the game is R.E.A.C.H, an artificial intelligence trapped in a human body. The journalists did not make statements about "AI tools", but this did not stop the activists.
The Replaced developers emphasized that they did not use generative AI when working on the game:
The game does not use any generative AI. What IGN was talking about is a story about AI in an alternate 80s America. Everything is 100% handmade by people.
