Modder is bringing planetary battles from the RPG "Space Rangers 2" to the browser

The developer has implemented some basic features and uploaded several maps.

The role-playing game "Space Rangers 2: Dominators" (or Space Rangers 2: Dominators) has many fans. Some still release various modifications to this day.

An enthusiast going by the nickname "Starshiy Avgur" (Ilya Gusev) recently shared his memories of discovering the game and also spoke about an ambitious project:

Back in the day, I bought it on disc - or rather, a friend and I bought it together, and then we would regularly pass that disc to each other. I completed it about 20 times. About 5 times the original, then once on each patch that I found on what was then the limited internet available to me, and then several more times on Steam. And to this day I consider this game the best computer game, period.

"Starshiy Avgur" wants to bring the planetary battles from "Space Rangers 2" to the browser. In terms of gameplay, these battles are a real-time strategy with several unique features - a robot constructor and a first-person robot control mode.

This is what the battles look like in "Space Rangers 2":

"Starshiy Avgur" said that he recently learned that the source code for the planetary battles is open, and he "got fired up by the idea of bringing them to the browser."

At the moment, the enthusiast has implemented loading of the original assets, rendering of terrain, textures, water, sky, static and animated objects, that is, "you can't play yet, but you can look at the render."

It is still unknown how long it will take to complete the project. "Starshiy Avgur" is sharing progress in the Telegram community.
