Media: Ubisoft has canceled another game - the Alterra project has been shut down after several years of development

The French company continues its large-scale restructuring and is gradually reducing the number of projects.

According to Insider Gaming, the Alterra project, which had been in development for several years, has been canceled. It is reported that the decision was communicated to the team on Tuesday, after which employees were sent home. At the same time, there is no information about direct layoffs — some developers were reassigned to other projects within the company.

Alterra was conceived as an unusual game for Ubisoft: a social simulator in the spirit of Animal Crossing with voxel graphics and elements similar to Minecraft. Players were reportedly going to be given the opportunity to build, gather resources, and explore biomes inhabited by various creatures. Ubisoft Montreal had been developing the game for about three years.

The situation shows that Ubisoft continues to reshape its portfolio and reduce the number of parallel projects. The company is increasingly making decisions to cancel games even before official announcements, trying to focus its resources.
