Final Fantasy XIV Presentation: New Expansion Announcement and Nintendo Switch 2 Release
Final Fantasy XIV has become one of the key MMORPGs on the market, competing with World of Warcraft in the subscription segment. At Fan Fest 2026, Square Enix showcased a number of new features.
The main announcement is the Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold expansion. Heroes will venture into extremely cold regions, contrasting with the tropical mood of 2024's Dawntrail. The release is scheduled for January 2027 – within the game's usual window.
The game's release on Nintendo Switch 2 was also confirmed. Producer Naoki Yoshida presented the version on stage, running the game directly on the console. Nintendo assisted in the preparation.
Among other news is a collaboration with Neon Genesis Evangelion in the form of a temporary raid. The season structure will change: each will have two major updates.
The game is approaching 35 million registered users:
- A Realm Reborn — launch
- Heavensward — 4 million
- Stormblood — 10 million
- Shadowbringers — 18 million
- Endwalker — 25 million
- Dawntrail — almost 35 million
