Russian voice acting released for the RPG Might and Magic V: Darkside of Xeen - 33 years after its release
Now classic enthusiasts can play the RPG with full Russian localization.
The "Old-Games.Ru Translation Bureau" team has been producing translations of old computer games since 2009. Recently, they recalled the classic RPG Might and Magic V: Darkside of Xeen, which was released in 1993.
The localizers addressed the community:
RPG connoisseurs perfectly understand the significance of this game. For others, just a few words: the Might and Magic series — one of the pillars of classic CRPGs — started back in 1987 and for a long time competed with Ultima and Wizardry. Might and Magic is not a fantasy about elves and dwarves, as it might seem at first glance, but science fiction with a very, very deeply developed world. The inhabitants of the Sword and Magic universe live in their fantasy Middle Ages and do not even suspect that they are on a huge spaceship controlled by a computer, and all their magic is just very complex high technologies. Have you read "Orphans of the Sky" or "Hard to Be a God"? That's how it is in Might and Magic, only even more elaborated.
The "Old-Games.Ru Translation Bureau" stated that creating Russian voice acting for Might and Magic V: Darkside of Xeen became a long-term project for them. Work began back in 2016, but the programmer who knew how to work with the game engine and was involved in the translation of Might & Magic 4 passed away. Subsequently, the project was frozen, but in 2024, hippiman took on the role of project programmer and gradually figured out the game's structure. As a result, the full localization was able to be released in April 2026.
