s&box Release Trailer - Garry's Mod Successor Turns a Profit for the First Time in 5 Years
A new sandbox game from Facepunch Studios is coming to Steam soon.
The creators of Garry's Mod are preparing for the release of their new sandbox game, s&box, which has been developed and tested in a closed environment over the past few years. The project is built on Valve's Source Engine 2.
Shortly before the launch, the developers spoke about their approach to work, as well as payments to content creators:
We are not focused on commercial milestones and are not going to go public [list shares on the stock exchange]. We do this because we love it, and we want to give the community the same opportunities we had. We want to do this as honestly and generously as possible — without any corporate machinations.
To date, the developers have paid content creators over $500,000. Facepunch Studios does not hide financial reports from players — the data is publicly available. Users recently noticed that after more than 5 years of development, s&box turned a profit: the system recorded "+$280,000" in April of this year.

Earlier, Facepunch Studios revoked s&box access for some players.
