The creators of the first "Gothic" remake from Alkimia Interactive studio remain true to the original. Modern helpers will not be implemented in the new version of the classic.
Game director Reinhard Pollice confirmed that Gothic 1 Remake will not have a minimap:
We don't have a minimap, we stuck to that decision very strictly. We thought about making it optional, but then decided that even that felt somehow wrong. If you want to know where you are, just open the map – and you'll find out.
The remake developers discussed the possibility of adding more activities to the map, but ultimately decided not to overload it:
We discussed whether to make some additional mini-games to fill the map more. For example, add a card game or, perhaps, fishing mini-games. Who knows what awaits Gothic in the future – maybe one day we will do something like that. However, we did not consider the implementation of such things a priority. It seemed to us that for the main gameplay it was not so necessary.
Reinhard also noted that at the initial stage, the possibility of giving the player a character editor was considered, but this was quickly abandoned, as the original image of the Nameless became iconic.
However, the crafting system has been deepened: there will be a full-fledged alchemy system, scroll creation, and weapon forging. Cooking has become more complex, requiring recipes to be found.
Gothic 1 Remake is scheduled for release on June 5, 2026.
