Thanks to NVIDIA RTX Remix tools, enthusiasts have been able to create "quick remasters" on their own. However, not everything goes smoothly with all games. One such project was the shooter DOOM 3.
The game uses OpenGL, and RTX Remix experiences serious problems with reworking such projects. However, a breakthrough was recently made. Modder Justin Marshall announced that he managed to integrate DirectX 12 and DXR into the official DOOM 3 level editor. This could potentially be an important step towards creating a full-fledged remaster of the shooter with path tracing.
The approach proposed by Justin Marshall allows for a preview of ray tracing during the level creation process. As proof, the modder published a recording of his work in the development environment and clearly demonstrated the changes to one of the DOOM 3 locations.

Currently, various modifications are available for DOOM 3 that improve the graphics of the classic shooter. For example, the "RealDOOM 3" mod, which also adds new content to the game.
