As it turned out, Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era managed to pay for itself within the first day – sales exceeded 250 thousand copies on Steam. Developers are currently reviewing bug reports and preparing fixes:

The first reviews of Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era on Steam are "very positive," and the peak online player count exceeded 51 thousand. The game is expected to remain in early access for about a year.
