In mid-April of this year, the premium online shooter Last Flag was released on PC via Steam. Its developer is Night Street Games, a studio founded by Dan Reynolds — the vocalist of Imagine Dragons.
The project attracted some attention at launch but did not become a hit. The peak online player count reached 558 and gradually declined thereafter. A temporary free access promotion did not help.
In early May, the creators of Last Flag announced the curtailment of active support, but the studio will still release previously planned updates for the game. The developers do not want to "kill" their game, but rather wish to "hand it over to the community":
Creating Last Flag has been a dream come true for our team. While the current online player count has not reached the level necessary to support further development beyond the already planned updates, we are shifting our focus to ensure these updates provide players with maximum value and game management capabilities, allowing it to continue to evolve and grow.
In the coming months, Last Flag will add a new map, character, cosmetic content, and new rules that players can use to customize private lobbies:
We will focus on replayability, community support, and providing players with the tools to create the next chapter of Last Flag — with persistent lobbies and unique rules inspired by games like GoldenEye, Team Fortress 2, and Super Smash Bros. We don't want to kill our game — we want to hand it over to the community that helped us get to this point.
