Recently, localizers from SynthVoiceRu announced the release of Russian voice-over for "Aboba" – Avowed, a fantasy role-playing game from Obsidian Entertainment.
The tech enthusiasts said they faced difficulties while creating the localization for Avowed. They had to deal with the engine and also solve the problem of character lines being cut off:
The process was incredibly laborious. Disassembling and adapting to the specific features of the game engine required enormous effort and unconventional solutions. The main problem was unwanted line cut-offs. This was caused by a peculiar system of sound and animation synchronization, where changing the length of audio files did not yield the expected result.
SynthVoiceRu eventually found a solution to the problem – they started carefully speeding up the speech:
We tried many approaches and, fortunately, found an effective solution! By slightly and carefully speeding up the speech, we managed to completely eliminate all cut-offs. Now there are no interruptions in the game, and the voice-over sounds smooth and complete! We hope you appreciate our efforts and enjoy full immersion in the game world.
