1C Game Studios continues to talk about "Korea. Il-2 Game Series". Recently, the developers presented a diary dedicated to their work on airfields.
The developers invite players to descend from the heavens to the ground and examine the small details:
Every time we begin our combat sortie, we see the airfield in detail. Starting the engine, driving through parking spots, taxiing to the runway — all this time we slowly move across the vast territory of the airfield. Often, these territories in game projects are very sparsely filled with objects, while in real life they are rich in incredibly interesting elements that make each airfield alive. This is especially true for wartime, where various repair works, redeployments, and re-equipment are constantly taking place at the airfield. And in "Korea", we tried to eliminate this lifelessness — because how you feel in the game world on the ground, while preparing for a sortie, also affects how you will feel in the air, directly in combat.
According to the developers, familiarity with the daily life of an airfield increases the significance of each battle — players will begin to believe more in what is happening.
The authors of "Korea. Il-2 Game Series" said that to bring the airfields to life, they created "a huge list of objects". It might seem to the player that there is some chaos on the location and everything is "scattered", but in reality, this is not the case:
[...] in reality, this seemingly disordered environment is a perfectly normal military order. Spare parts are in a specially designated area, semi-disassembled aircraft are in the TECh (technical-operational unit) zone, barrels are in the GCM (fuel and lubricants) warehouse zone, and so on. All these objects together create the atmosphere of a military airfield that cannot be confused with anything else, which is why we approached its reproduction in our new simulator "Korea" very carefully.
