Recently, the creators of the pirate RPG Caribbean Legend introduced a major update 1.8, as well as the premium add-on Maritime Stories.
Update 1.8 improves gameplay on the global map and at sea. This is the "penultimate major patch" and does not require starting a new game.
The in-game year is divided into "seasons":
- In the "Crown Season", pirate activity significantly wanes, shops are replenished with crown goods – wood, gunpowder, and provisions. Ships are cheaper to repair, and it's easier to replenish the crew.
- "Cane Season" is a paradise for traders. Shops are bursting with colonial goods, the price difference between import and export grows, and even the increasing pirate activity cannot overshadow the greed and thirst for profit that engulfs the entire archipelago.
- "Storm Season" is a test for every captain. The raging elements will test every ship and port for strength, diseases rage, goods begin to disappear from shelves, and sailors refuse to go to sea. It is much easier to encounter wreckage at sea than a whole ship.
- "Shadow Season" is a time of reckoning and war. Cut off from Europe by the impassable Atlantic, weakened and embittered, the powers begin to devour each other like spiders in a jar. Nothing remains at sea but pirates and battles. War fleets endlessly raid weakened colonies, and the shortage of goods "becomes terrifying".
The boarding mechanic has been expanded – now boarders can help the main character during cabin combat. The developers have added a new event where an enemy captain barricades himself in the cabin with his officers, forcing a mass battle.
The "Course Angle" system has been reworked – now the ship's speed at a certain angle to the wind is displayed using a colored ring around the compass.
A new aiming logic for ships has been implemented – now the reticle will move with the ship during a broadside, instead of being tied to a point in space.
Various AI and global map improvements have been implemented. For example, the water area where the player's ship is located will now be displayed on the screen.
The weight of almost all junk in the game has been reduced.
The Maritime Stories add-on for Caribbean Legend brings the global map to life – it adds 70 unique stories, plot-driven and free-play events to the game. New Steam achievements and a drowned man's kit have also appeared.
