Recently, the creators of Kingdom Come: Deliverance held a Q&A session. A user named Gullible-Regret-5958 on Reddit asked about Warhorse Studios' sources of inspiration:
What open-world RPGs do you like besides Kingdom Come? Are there any among them that influenced the development of KCD in a certain way?
This question was answered by Ondřej Bittner, who joined the KCD team as a quest designer and then worked on the clothing system, character design, and other content for the sequel.
He said that Daniel Vavra carefully studied The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and highlighted moments he strongly disliked — resulting in a long list:
Well, I think a huge source of inspiration for Vavra was Skyrim, although he wrote a famous article listing 100 reasons why he hates that game. However, for me, my all-time favorite RPG is Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. Nothing compares to it.
The creator of Kingdom Come was annoyed by various things, including small details. For example, the fact that small pieces of iron can eventually turn into a huge sword; a character can swim in armor, and an NPC calmly goes to sleep even though the hero invaded their house at night.
