Square Enix released a quality port, but it was not without noticeable compromises.
The Switch 2 version received the most attention. According to analysts, this is one of the most ambitious ports for the new Nintendo console. The game retains some visual effects from the PS5 and in places resembles the quality mode on the Xbox Series S.
However, there are problems. Digital Foundry notes noticeable pop-ins, simplified backgrounds, and performance drops in open locations. In some scenes on Switch 2, the frame rate can drop below 30 FPS, especially when exploring large areas.
Despite this, the overall reception remains positive. Experts emphasize that the scale of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth makes the very fact of its launch on a hybrid Nintendo console seem almost impossible until recently.
Xbox Series X|S shows more stable performance. Microsoft consoles provide better stability and fewer visual simplifications, but they are inferior to PS5 in shadow quality, environmental detail, and dynamic resolution.
Analysts also note that Switch 2 is increasingly perceived by publishers as a real platform for modern AAA games. A few years ago, the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Nintendo seemed impossible, and now Square Enix is not only porting the game but doing so at a high level.
