Senior Project Engineer Garrett Fredley announced on social media that the team recently presented their vision for the program and their work results to Sony management. According to him, this confirmed the company's serious commitment to preserving materials accumulated over 30 years of PlayStation's existence.
Along with this, Fredley showed an unofficial logo for the initiative. The image featured characters from PaRappa the Rapper, Ape Escape, Sly Cooper, and the duo Jak & Daxter — characters associated with different generations of PlayStation consoles.
According to the engineer, the image was initially an informal work by one of the team members, but later became a kind of symbol for the project. He also joked that there was even a small “war” within the team over which PlayStation characters should be included in the image.
The initiative is based on special servers and complex database systems, which Fredley discussed at GDC 2025. Engineers face the task of preserving thousands of early versions of games and digital materials.
In addition to the technical side, the program aims to raise awareness of the problem of preserving gaming heritage so that classic games do not disappear.
