Pre-orders have opened for the "Terror of Devlan" box, which includes 10 "Spectre" squad soldiers, one beacon, a Tyranid Red Terror, 10 Termagants, and one Ripper Swarm. To mark this occasion, Games Workshop published photos of Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team community artists painting miniatures from the set.
For example, Andy Farrell, Luke Coen, Angelo Di Cello, and Chris Frosin experimented with the color of the Red Terror. Denis Rubbert, Jessica Smart, Chris Lewis, and Jason Faye chose options for this Tyranid that were far from the usual red, combining dark tones with bright carapaces.
Nevertheless, red has become iconic for a reason. Many artists — including David Vitek, James Otero, Angel Giraldez, and Chris Wildman — perfected it, presenting phenomenal interpretations of the traditional scheme.
Rob Walters, Dakota Laster, and Matt Alix went all out, creating intricate camouflage on the uniforms of the "Spectre" squad fighters. At the same time, Andy Farrell, Lloyd Davies, Damon Johnson, and Stuart Mac chose simpler and more uniform colors, giving their scouts a concise look that emphasizes their stealth.
There are also many black uniforms and green cloaks in the works… perhaps the authors were inspired by a legendary squad known for their ability to operate stealthily. Marco Miladinovic's scheme looks particularly striking: thanks to carefully crafted lighting effects, it seems as if his sergeant is moving through darkness, illuminated from above.
Ben from Cult of Paint and Jon Rees replaced the heads of their fighters to give the squads a more specialized look. Ben used Tempestus Scions berets, while Jon's squad uses hooded heads from Skitarii. In addition, Vincent Notley applied his signature "technicolor," painting almost the entire team in various colors.
