According to Cocks, the decision to support EXODUS arose from an "obvious market need." He noted that fans of sci-fi RPGs have been waiting for a worthy replacement for the BioWare series for almost 10 years, and the state of BioWare after the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard is causing increasing concern among players.

EXODUS is being developed by a team of BioWare veterans led by writer Drew Karpyshyn, and Cocks describes the project as "Dungeons & Dragons in space."

This is a great team with a strong idea. And besides, the market has long needed such a game – we haven't had a really good Mass Effect for many years. I think this team is capable of filling the void.

The developers are focusing on serious story choices and relationships between characters – exactly what players loved about the original Mass Effect trilogy. EXODUS is currently scheduled for release in early 2027, and the creators have promised to show new materials and an extended gameplay demonstration in the summer.
