In May 2026, gamers suddenly remembered the playable teaser for the remake of the first Gothic. The reason was the removal of "Gothic Playable Teaser" from the Steam service.

This playable teaser was released on Steam over 5 years ago and allowed gamers to evaluate the developers' vision. At the time, the studio emphasized in the description that it was a concept:

This is not a full game, but a short teaser snippet that represents one possible approach to creating a new Gothic. Nothing is set in stone yet. Without your feedback, it's impossible to turn Gothic into a modern game. Therefore, and as a thank you for your loyalty to Gothic – the Playable Teaser is free for all owners of games from the Gothic series and from Piranha Bytes studio!

Gothic Playable Teaser was not only removed from Steam but also from the libraries of players who had added it to their collection.

Some players were surprised by this decision, but there is a certain logic to it. On the Gothic Playable Teaser forum on Steam, calls to not make / cancel pre-orders are still being published to this day. At the same time, these people were not bothered by the fact that the teaser significantly differs from the current version of the remake – the developers used feedback on Gothic Playable Teaser (2019) to refine the project.

Gothic 1 Remake is scheduled for release on June 5, 2026. You can add the game to your Steam wishlist via the following link, pre-orders are already open.
