Sony admits the main thing: a console is worthless without games

Sony's Vice President of Third-Party Games, Kristian Svensson, stated that without games, PlayStation "literally remains just a plastic box."

According to Svensson, content is what determines the success of a platform and keeps players within the ecosystem. He said that one of Sony's executives often used this phrase:

Without content, PlayStation is literally just a plastic box.

The top manager emphasized that the console itself serves only as a foundation, while the key role is played by projects for which users buy the device and continue to return to it every day.

Svensson separately noted the importance of games from third-party studios. According to him, they make up the "lion's share" of the PlayStation catalog and help the platform attract diverse audiences throughout the year.

The Sony representative also stated that the company is obligated to support external studios and new developers. He believes that without this, the gaming industry will stop growing.

As an industry leader, we have a responsibility to move forward and develop the entire market, not just our own business.

The statement came amid discussions about the future of PlayStation, Sony's services, and the company's strategy. Despite the brand's association with major exclusives, Sony acknowledges that without the support of third-party developers, even the most powerful console remains just a device.
