Subnautica 2 is expected to be released on May 14, but shortly before this date, the game was leaked online. Fans have several theories: an error might have occurred during pre-loading (files were not encrypted); someone with early access leaked the game; hackers could have stolen the build from a journalist or the developers themselves.
Unknown Worlds Entertainment studio acknowledged the leak but clarified that old builds are being circulated:
We have learned that unofficial builds of Subnautica 2 are currently circulating online. These builds are unfinished versions and do not reflect the content or gameplay experience being prepared for the official release.
The creators of Subnautica 2 also noted that the leaked builds might be buggy:
Files distributed through unofficial channels cannot be verified for safety or stability, and some features or content elements may not function correctly.
The developers warned players that the version released on May 14 will differ from what they can currently see in the leaked builds. The game will be released in "early access" format, and new content and features will be released for it.
