There will be battles, but mostly the player will be shown an animated digital comic. The story can be viewed as an interactive graphic novel.
Producer Takeshi Yamanaka explained that the studio decided to pay homage to Marvel's comic book roots in this way. The developers wanted to "bring static frames to life" by adding animation, sound, and DualSense feature support.
The plot of Episodes Mode will tell about the Challenge of the Champion tournament, organized by the mysterious character The Promoter. The story, reportedly, will be divided into five two-hour episodes dedicated to different teams of heroes.
Players are also promised voice acting in ten languages and scene scrolling speed settings.
Arc System Works has already used a similar approach in Guilty Gear Strive, where the story was presented in the format of a full-fledged anime. However, the main mode of Marvel Tokon will remain a multiplayer fighting game.
