Amazon Canceled The Lord of the Rings MMORPG
Amazon Games has officially confirmed the cancellation of the MMORPG set in The Lord of the Rings universe. The game was announced in 2023 and was intended to be a major online RPG project set in Middle-earth.
Rumors of development problems had been circulating for a long time. Last year, a former Amazon Games employee stated that the project had been shut down, but the company did not comment on the information at the time. Now, the cancellation has been confirmed by Jeff Grattis, head of Amazon's gaming division.

Amazon clarified that they are not abandoning Tolkien's universe entirely and are still interested in projects set in Middle-earth. However, this particular MMORPG is no longer in development.
According to previous leaks, the game was only in the pre-production stage. In 2025, there were also layoffs in the teams associated with the project.
