Forza Horizon 6 showcases Xbox Project Helix capabilities? Experts highly praise the game's quality
Forza Horizon 6 is receiving high praise, and Digital Foundry experts hint that it's not just a new installment in the series, but a demonstration of the capabilities of the upcoming Xbox Project Helix console.
Digital Foundry reports that the game has become one of the most beautiful racing games of the generation. The main focus is ray tracing, which is used not only in reflections on cars but also in environmental lighting. RTGI (ray-traced global illumination) is also applied, working alongside classic lighting to make scenes more realistic.
John Linneman notes that such lighting more strongly "ties" objects to the world: shadows look more natural, and light behaves realistically on surfaces. The effect is noticeable even at high speeds — you don't always consciously perceive it, but the image feels more natural.
Reflections are highlighted separately: cars reflect each other and the environment, and cities look like "mirror" spaces. Digital Foundry compares the leap in quality to Spider-Man on PS5.
This is why the topic of Xbox Project Helix comes up. Currently, such effects at 60 fps and high detail are mainly available on powerful PCs. If Project Helix becomes a console with PC-like architecture, Forza Horizon 6 could be the first example of Microsoft's next-generation gaming approach.
