8 GB VRAM is no longer enough for 1080p. Forza Horizon 6 testing results
Forza Horizon 6 tests have shown that graphics cards with 8 GB VRAM can no longer handle modern AAA games even at 1080p. The situation looks especially bad at maximum graphics settings.
Hardware Unboxed has been talking about the problem of insufficient video memory for several years. According to tests, the NVIDIA RTX 5060 Ti with 8 GB VRAM does not maintain a stable 60 FPS in Forza Horizon 6 even with DLSS at 1080p. Performance hovers around 50 FPS. Meanwhile, the RTX 5060 Ti with 16 GB VRAM shows almost twice the result in the same scenes.
At 1440p, the difference becomes even more noticeable. The 8 GB VRAM version delivers about 30 FPS after DLSS upscaling, while the 16 GB model maintains 55–60 FPS.
This refers to maximum graphics settings, but Hardware Unboxed notes that even at medium presets, the 16 GB version performs better. The editorial team stated:
We can confirm that Ultra and Extreme settings in Forza Horizon 6 absolutely require a minimum of 12 GB VRAM. We have been warning for years that owners of 8 GB VRAM GPUs will soon only be able to use “medium” graphics settings, and we are already seeing this in Forza Horizon 6. (...) The quality difference between Extreme and High in Forza Horizon 6 is very large.
