Mixtape is a new game from Beethoven & Dinosaur, the studio behind The Artful Escape. The plot tells the story of three high school friends who go to their last party and recall their teenage years. The project actively uses 1990s music, including tracks by The Smashing Pumpkins and Devo.
Due to the large amount of licensed music, some players feared that the game would be removed from sale after the rights expired, as has happened with other projects. However, game director Johnny Galvatron dispelled these fears.
According to him, the studio negotiated licenses “on a permanent basis.” Annapurna later wrote on X:
We've seen some people say that MIXTAPE will be removed from stores after music licenses expire. This is false.
Galvatron also said that the studio tried to get Pink Floyd's music, using the band as a “test of what's possible,” but later abandoned the idea when it became clear that approval was unlikely.
