1C Game Studios continues to talk about the development of the flight simulator “Korea. Il-2 Game Series”. Recently, the developers presented a diary dedicated to the creation of clouds:
If we talk about the Volumetric cloud rendering technology itself – so far, the IT industry has not come up with anything new. This technology, with various variations, is now used by almost all aviation simulators and beyond. But the devil is in the details – in how this technology is applied, what elements of its fine-tuning are used.
The developers of “Korea. Il-2 Game Series” reported that they managed to find ways and resources to increase the detail of cloud cover rendering, improving a number of aspects of its lighting. They also noted that “technology is just the foundation.” 1C Game Studios spent a lot of time rethinking their approaches to cloud design – as a result, they managed to make them more diverse and realistic:
We spent a lot of time rethinking our approaches to the art direction of the simulator's environment components, including clouds. The structures of cloud formations, their shapes, and distribution maps were revised. Now they are, firstly, more realistic, and secondly, much more artistic. More variety, types, and kinds of clouds have appeared. We are confident that among the numerous cloud options we have prepared, everyone will be able to find the sky condition that they like best.
