In May, an update was released for one of the key mod tools for several games in the Grand Theft Auto franchise – GTA III, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andreas. ModLoader received update 0.3.9; the previous version was released about 8 years ago.

ModLoader is a universal mod loader for the 3D trilogy, allowing players to install modifications by simply copying files without the need to edit game archives.

The "LibertyCity" community reported the new features of ModLoader version 0.3.9:

  • Implemented audio support for GTA 3 and Vice City – replacement of sfx.raw/sfx.sdt, as well as WAV/MP3/ADF files in the audio folder.
  • Improved FXT parser – now correctly trims spaces at the end of lines (like in CLEO).
  • Improved compatibility with ASI plugins that open files during DllMain initialization.
  • Improved path handling between CLEO, ASI, and EXE.
  • Compatibility with limit adjusters (handling limit adjusters).
  • Compatibility with ZMenu.
  • Fixed an issue with loading coach.dff/txd from gta3.img and player.img.
  • Fixed crashes on the loading screen with corrupted data cache.
  • Support for setting maximum mod priority in modloader.ini.
  • Support for arbitrary SCM script names (e.g., main_d.scm) – necessary for gtadebug.
  • Support for MAPZONE definitions in GTA 3.
  • Continuous deployment pipeline (automatic builds).

The new version of ModLoader has already been published online and is freely available.
