Colin Moriarty, founder of the Sacred Symbols podcast and former IGN editor, stated that his PSN account was hacked. He wrote:
My PSN account was hacked, apparently as part of an ongoing and very advanced series of attacks targeting both casual and prominent users.
What was particularly alarming was that Moriarty had two-factor authentication enabled. He emphasized that he was not a victim of phishing:
I was not tricked, I did not click on links, and I did not accidentally enter my password anywhere. I am absolutely sure of this.
Before the hack, his email was flooded with hundreds of spam messages, which, according to him, could have hidden important notifications. He then received an SMS about an email change and 2FA deactivation. A threat was also sent from his account: "You're next."
Moriarty suggested that the attack could be related to vulnerabilities in account recovery or social engineering against support. He also criticized Sony:
I was told that getting any answers could take three weeks. That sounds absurd.
He later regained access but admitted that personal industry contacts helped.
