Microsoft hinted: Xbox will change more than in the last 25 years

Microsoft is increasingly hinting at a massive overhaul of the Xbox brand.

During the Digital Dragons 2026 conference, ID@Xbox Director Guy Richards stated that the coming years will bring “more changes than the 25 years that led us to this point.” He did not disclose details but made it clear that the company is preparing for a period of serious changes that will affect hardware, services, and the brand's structure.

The ID@Xbox representative also mentioned a “very exciting summer,” which fans interpreted as a hint of major announcements at the Xbox Games Showcase and other Microsoft events. He specifically noted the return of Xbox FanFest and new activities for the brand's 25th anniversary.

Against this backdrop, a broader topic is being discussed – the possible restructuring of Xbox's strategy under the new head of the brand, Asha Sharma. Microsoft has been experimenting with exclusives for several months, more actively implementing AI, changing its approach to Game Pass, and expanding Xbox beyond consoles.

The departure from the classic console generation model is also being discussed. Rumors are circulating in the industry about a portable Xbox, a Project Helix device, and closer integration of AI and cloud technologies into future devices.
