Giant Skull studio was introduced in March 2024 and attracted industry attention thanks to a team of veterans, including Star Wars Jedi developers. Last year, Hasbro, through Wizards of the Coast, officially announced a collaboration with the studio on an action-adventure game set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe.

The project was positioned as an important step for both companies in the gaming industry. However, according to Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, the publishing deal was terminated. Wizards of the Coast abandoned the project earlier this year, and the game ultimately did not go into production.

A company representative stated that they “evaluate concepts at every stage of development.” He also noted that despite abandoning an early version of the project, Wizards of the Coast respects Stig Asmussen and his team, remaining open to further cooperation.

The decision fits into a broader restructuring of Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast. The company is simultaneously investing in video games and cutting costs.

Asmussen stated that the situation at Giant Skull remains stable. He positively assesses the cooperation with Wizards of the Coast and is negotiating with both this company and other partners.
