Blizzard Entertainment invited StarCraft II fans to participate in testing the upcoming update at the end of May. Update 5.0.16 is currently available to players on a special PTR server.
This update does not add new content to the game; the StarCraft II developers focused on balancing the early stages of the game and introduced improvements designed to enhance gameplay comfort:
We tried to focus this PTR on expanding the early and mid-game, allowing players to remain competitive longer when playing on 1-3 bases. We made changes to make playing through regular Gateways (not warp gates) a more viable option, as well as to increase the overall strategic diversity for all three races. In addition, a number of quality-of-life improvements aimed at increasing overall gameplay comfort have been implemented.
The changes affect not only the parameters of Terran, Zerg, and Protoss units but also the economy. The developers reduced the starting number of workers from 12 to 8 and adjusted the amount of resources in mining locations (up or down depending on the type of location).
A full description of update 5.0.16 for StarCraft II is available at the following link (the patch notes have not yet been translated into Russian). The developers did not specify how long they plan to test the update.
